Item Hints (Randomizer Compatible)
Search for an item and get hints to its location or use the interactive map to see items near a site of grace. Compatible with thefifthmatt’s Randomizer.
Compatible with the Base Game and the Randomizer mod
The Elden Ring Item Hints app allows you to search for items and identify what area they are in (Limgrace, Liurnia, etc), then if you want to know more you can then reveal a nearby site of grace to get a more accurate location.
The app won’t show you the exact location of each item, it’s been designed to only give a nearby Site of Grace, allowing you to still have some exploration.
It also allows you to search for and show items related to each NPC (sold, dropped) or a nearby Site of Grace.
The app is especially useful when using thefifthmatt’s Randomizer Mod, as you can paste and parse the spoiler log. Allowing you to use all of this apps features with the randomized item set.
How to Use
You can use the app in various ways:
- Use the map to visually browse and click on Sites of Grace, displaying nearby items. You can then click on an item for more information.
- Use text to search for items, then click on the chosen item to see more details including a nearby Site of Grace or what’s holding the item (NPC/Chest/Corpse).
- Turn on Mark Sites of Grace to highlight each Site of Grace that matches you search terms, allowing you to visually see each Site of Grace that has, for example, a Smithing Stone [2] nearby.
- Use text to search for an NPC, then clicking on the NPC lists items that are either sold or dropped by them.
- Use text to search for a Site of Grace, then clicking on the Site of Grace lists items that are nearby.
- Seamlessly switch between the Randomizer save file and the Base Game.
The app comes with the items and locations already set to the Base game, so you don’t need to input any information unless you are using the Randomizer.
Using Randomizer Spoiler Log
In the upper left corner click on the “Paste Randomizer Spoiler Log” button. This will bring up a text box you can paste the spoiler log into. If you need help locating the Spoiler Log, see thefifthmatt’s Randomizer mod page.
Make sure you paste in the entire Spoiler Log, open the Spoiler Log text file, select all the text (Control + A), copy (Control + C) and paste (Control + V).
Parsing the Randomizer spoiler log can take 30+ seconds depending your hardware.
In order to parse the text the app uses “returns” to separate into an array of lines and will use two specific strings of text to find the start and end of the log (Start: “–Spoilers:”, End: “From Albinauric. Replaces Dirty Chainmail.”). This should all happen automatically, you don’t need to make any modifications to the spoiler log. Just copy and paste into the dialog box in this application.
There is also the functionality to read in the spoiler log from a JSON file located in the local saved game folder.
To identify where this folder is located, launch the app and click on the Paste Randomiser Spoiler Log button. The JSON file location will be displayed in a dialog box below.
Follow the instructions below:
- In the original spoiler log file from the randomizer, copy from the very first line down to — End of item spoilers.
- In order for the application to read in the spoiler log, the spoiler log has to be JSON parsable, meaning any quotes need to be escaped. For example “Armour” would need to become \”Armour\”. This can be done with a simple find and replace in Notepad. Find ” replace with \”
- I’ve included an example JSON log file with these corrections made in the zip file.
This app is still in beta, so I am expecting some bugs, if you want to help please post how to reproduce the bugs.
Installation
Download and Unarchive the zip file, then launch the exe.
Troubleshooting
- If you don’t see any items listed when searching, check which mode you are in at the top right hand side. If you are in the randomizer mode and have no pasted in your randomizer spoiler log then no items will be displayed. You can switch back to the base game item set in the settings menu.
Notes
- In the information widget, the Replaces and Detailed information heading will only show information when using a Randomizer spoiler log.
- The always show options in the settings menu will skip having to click the “Click to Reveal…” and immediately show the information whenever you select a new item.
- The location accuracy heading will show “Site of Grace” >95% of the time. The other times it will show “Area”, this is when the app can’t match the item to a specific “Site of Grace” but does know the general area. I’ve worked hard to limit the number of these.
