All-In-One Vanilla Hair Blender file – Modder’s Resource

In short? I wanted to have a at-a-glance list of hair IDs and what they look like ingame.
As I didn’t find any online & don’t have the time to scramble endless discords for it, I just extracted and identified them through blender. And because I can, I’ll just save you guys a bunch of work & provide an All-in-One Blender file for everyone

Well I’m making mods in a more private environment normally, off the public release-light and I’ve seen a bunch of hard-to-modify games over this time. Elden Ring definitely is a very good example for a being a diva of a game when it comes to set up a workflow-“efficient” environment, so while I was about to wrap my head around the modding of hair styles, I felt like I was building a house in the middle of the jungle.

Long story short:
This is less of a mod than a collection of files useful for getting started with the hairworks, after you set up the workspace environment.

The content consists of the following:

    • Main: All-in-One Blender-Hair Style pack
      – A modified Blender-file of the base body model “ER_Base_Male” with all the vanilla ER hair styles existing so far in it.
    • Secondary: Sorted, unpacked Hair folders:
      – The folder structure of every vanilla Hair Style to eventually replace the altered file with the old one and re-pack it from there to make it game-ready.
    • Optional File: Player Base model
      – A Backup-version of each, the “ER_Base_Male” and “ER_Base_Female” (bc they are rarely/sloppily pointed out where to find them and yet so important. If you happen to be the owner around three corners of these files and want these being taken down, tell me. The place I got them from wasn’t delivering any prohibitions)

Special thanks:

    • ZLOHORT for the incredible guidance, patience and offering of a helping hand in order to get myself through the process of modding hair styles for ER.
    • Ikaros473 for delivering the very reason to get into modding hair styles at all with publishing his Realistic Long Hair mod that delivered the very basement to start a merge attempt in order to have me trying to turn the female-oriented hair style into a male version.

FAQ:
What do I need to get started creating mods in ER for… everything!?
– If you rly want to be able to edit everything, get yourself a cozy coffee, it’s not a humble list of programs:

  • UXM (to unpack game files)
  • Yabber (to unpack the unpacked dcx files)
  • BBtools (Blender file format & texture mod + no sign-up process to get the tool. Luvit.)
  • Blender + Blender SourceTools (Obviously you need a 3D program to do the actual editing in 3D. Sourcetools are for importing the models’ SMD)
  • Paint.net or Photoshop (if you don’t have PS, paint.net should be a reliable option, yet I cannot tell, using PS/CD)
  • FLVER Editor (to update-merge certain things after doing the blender-“magic”)
  • Yapped Rune Bear or DSMapStudio (Honestly, I go for the latter; I never worked with Yapped Rune Bear before but)
  • ModEngine 2 (Basically this is essential to work non-destructive, as you else would need to overwrite the extracted “game/” files every time; just don’t do that)

Are there any tutorials on how to use all these thingies on this very long list?

– Yeah. Even if google makes it a mess to actually find things, even with the right terminus.

If you wanna know what’s necessary to get the (i.e. hair) mod-creation started, I advice you deeply to first watch a setup-video on:

  • Elden Ring Modding from SaintMitt, in which you better start with:
    – First Step Tutorial – How to Make Mods for Elden Ring

His playlist is a bit odd sorted, so keep an eye on the right order, you might need to sort the list yourself, as it starts with the latest instead of the first in line

and / or

  • Elden Ring Modding (Playlist) from Scrub Milk, with starter friendly video:
    – How to import custom armor models to Elden Ring with Blender – How to add PHYSICS to custom meshes in Elden Ring (which is necessary to make your hair not static, but physically dynamic! Thanks to ZLOHORT for pointing this video out!)- Also Scrub Milk does host a pretty interesting archive

Is this going to be frequently updated?

Well, honestly? No.
This is exact that kinda durable upload that a) provides info about existing files, b) gives access to an Blender file and c) a heavy folder structure to re-import the Blender-edited vanilla files, all circling around hair styles.

As I’m working (actively, not counted the temp-frozen ones) on complex mods of two other games next to ER at this point, I can’t even tell what’s on the schedule next month, so by the time ER may eventually one day get new Hair Styles, I could be on Venus for all I know. If there’s an issue with the files or I missed something, I’ll make sure to give it an update for sure, as that’s an entire different thingy.

If I can, I will always try to share achieved knowledge as I see certain chance and fertility to, because I think this is the only way we can stop mass devolution out there: Stick your heads together and share our experiences in order to help others to not waste time on the same topic, when it’s maybe already figured out effectively.

And that said, I think Elden Ring’s modding community needs every help it can get for this diva of a game mod-creation-related.
